Best camera phone due out within 6 months?

I'm back on the Pixel 3 right now. Yes it's good but all shots I take still get touched up in a photo editor.

Mainly shadow detail, a bit of brightness and colour tweaking.

Why is a 1"sensor called a 1” sensor?

From what I can see there is simply nothing 1" about it.
Is it just the usual marketing lies?

Does the 3 have the shadows and highlights control in the camera app?

The 5 has this to control shadows/brightness

Just the basic exposure settings on the 3. Tbh it doesn't doesn't take long to adjust in post with Google photos.

A a question for the Pixel 5...does it have an always on display AOD or is it raise to view only?

Got it, if you ever upgrade the extra controls will save you a bit of time.

Pixel 5 has AOD (all the time) or the usual tap to view/raise to view.

Cheers. I like Pixels AOD best.

I've moved to OnePlus now as the general Pixel hardware and software isn't doing it for me. If they ever make a flagship again I'll be back.

Pixels are on sale at the moment £500 for a new 5 or you can get open boxed stuff for around £440

But yes, let's see what they do with the 6 later this year.

I have an s20fe

I went for zoom over the processing ability of the pixel.

I regret this. The zoom does not take usable pics.
If I went back again, I'd go for pixel now for pure camera
Not to say the normal and wide cams aren't good . But definitely disappointed in the zoom

Thanks for that. This is the current first place in my annual "marketing people are evil scum" award.

You might as well make a number up! What has a 2021 camera sensor got to do with a 1970s vacuum tube lol.

Interesting read, thanks. I had however assumed they measured the rectangular sensors diagonally, in the same sense as TV screens/sizes. Seems this isn't the case though as you guys pointed out.

More here

I have a few "big sensor" phones, whipped out the tape measure lol. Obviously you can't see the image sensor but pics for reference. The CM-1 is marketed as 1" , the 1020 and 808 are 1/1.5 and 1/1.2” respectively.

Doesn't surprise me if it's all marketing, however on a positive note, bigger is generally regarded as better right, so whilst smartphones sensor size are always going to be limited by the constraints of the device it's good at least to see the image sensor size being in focus again rather than just upping the megapixels.
