I understand it may never be prevented but i would like to do my best to stop it happening. I will be getting a new corsa vxr soon and dont want some dick keying it out of jelousy. Seems to be getting popular around here anyway.

Any thoughts?

Anything with perimeter protection.

I think you can get an expansion box for the Toad AI606 and most decent Cliffords should come with a 'warn-away' system which does the same thing.

what brand is seen to be one of the best? plus any links to a supplier or maybe a mobile installer?

I don't think anyone is going to key a Corsa out of jealousy - your biggest risk of damage is from inconsiderate morons slamming their doors into yours in carparks, and people brushing past it when its parked.

To try and reduce the risk of this..

a) Park as far away from the entrance to supermarkets etc as you can - there wont be other people around to park next to you
b) Don't park next to walkways etc, becuase people will brush against your car
c) If you have to park between two cars avoid carparks with really narrow spaces.

IF you had to park between 2 cars in say Tesco's, would you then drive to a carpark with wider spaces to park?

You got a VXR. Nice one. Had a go in one of these on the VXR Trackday. Was a really nice little car. Plenty of poke too.

How close do you park to where you live?

If it was me I'd be setting up motion sensetive lights and CCTV, and making sure everyone knows about it.

If you're close to the car you can even rid up a wireless camera in the car.

Not just your average Corsa is it though Fox?

Nearly everyone knows what type of cars the VXR's are. Plus, the big exhaust, big wheels... some greasy chav is going to walk past that and think "b******" etc etc.

You'd be amazed just what sort of cars get keyed these days. Hell, even my 420 was keyed when in the hands of a previous owner.

Cars will get keyed these days if you happen to unknowingly "take" someones spot who likes to park there. There are no limits or boundaries to what low lifes will and won't do!

There is a few lads at work with Clifford alarms fitted and they have the proximity sensors. When someone is near the car they let out a chirp noise periodically.

I always try to park next to the newest shiniest car I can, you can be pretty confident they will be as careful opening their doors as you are, I also NEVER take up 2 spaces!

Not keen on perimeter sensing, it seems like scrotes just see that as a bigger invitation to damage your car. They like setting them off by walking past close anyway.

A scrote cull is the only sure fire way of preventing petty vandalism

People key cars becuase they are ******* morons with no respect for anyone elses property and they think its clever, for much the same way that people smash the windows in bus stops and destroy phone boxes, not really out of jealousy.

it should be legal to key them in the face :p

run over their keys with your car (preferable while they are still in their pockets or something) - thus car'ing their keys! :D

That's true some of the time, but it still has quite a large part to play.

I mean, you're in a car park and see a nice shiny new 530d on 18s and tints or a dirty old Astra 1.4. Which one do you think Mr ***** is going to get the most pleasure of taking a key to?
