My dad's next door neighbour had his car stolen for the 2nd time and last night two people tried to steal his hire car from the insurance company and it has my dad wanting to get a ring camera and a wheel lock, do any of you fine people have a recommendation for wheel lock or anti theft device?

A camera will have zero effect, unless you want the motion detection notifications. Physical measures which will deter or at the very least slow down the most determined thieves will be most effective. They know the police response time is long and will sometimes quite happily keep going despite alarms.

I thought alarms/immobilisers on cars were pretty good these days. Most of the cars I've heard of been stolen were ones where they used wilreless/keyless entry signal extender fob devices to take the car from the driveway when the key was in range next to the door/etc? Or literally stealing the keys themselves?

How did they manage to steal your dad's neighbours car?

I've no idea yet but will find out.

Fighting stance, park your car in the green zone

Buy something less on the scrotes
Radar…… wife fancied an S3 bought an SQ2 instead

Physical deterrent anything that makes your car less desirable over the next one

Buy a vauxhall, any.

Do I get triple minus points for having French build with Vauxhall badge on an MPV? (Combo Life, which is the same car as the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Rifter, Toyota ProAce City, Fiat Doblo).

Also shame on Toyota for tarnishing their name with this bag-o-poop

Modern cars are laughably easy to steal unfortunately. Can be from simple keyless relay attacks but loads of cars can be stolen by getting access to the CANBUS network somewhere in the car, in some Honda's like CRV or HRV's you can pull the arch liner out in the front and get access to a plug for the front lights, plug your device in and can unlock and start the car within about 45 seconds of walking up to the vehicle.

Physical security and making your car less of an easy target is probably the only real way, so a bollard installed on your drive way, steering wheel lock etc.

But then you do run the risk of them just breaking in to your home and threatening you/your family until you give them the keys.

What made the hire car impossible to steal?

Also does a steering wheel lock really work? Imo, a quick release steering wheel is a good deterrent.

I just wouldn't bother. If a decent thief wants your car, they are likely going to take it whatever you do.

The only thing you can do is get something that isn't that desirable I guess.

But if they have the choice between your car & the same model a street away and yours has a disc lock, and the other doesn't, it's highly likely they will divert their attention to the easier target.

Dogs, security lights etc.

I wouldn't bother with a bollard because I know one day whilst going to work in the early hours of the morning you will end up forgetting to lower it and smash your sump off.

Leave an axe, a pack of shotgun shells and a fake court summons on the passenger seat.

Or tell him to move out of Joburg.

I fancied an S3, Golf R etc - I went for a Polo GTI thinking it would be less on their radar but still had some scrotes at my back doors at 2/3AM.

I think anything Performance / Performance & German are still likely to attract and be stolen.

I’d perhaps go down the Disk Lock, CCTV & Really Bright Motion Lights, Bollards would be great but in convenient and likely to hit one day :D

Then obviously have a Faraday Box to protect from Keyless magic.

I blocked it in with my partners more expensive but far more boring Toyota Hybrid and had no issues for over 12 months whilst doing so, now I’ve got a boring slow truck through so don’t worry.
