Looking for the best card for around the £60 mark. Will be used to play games at 1280x1024.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies but it has to be a new card. I could have specified that I know :)

I don't think you'll get better than the 7750. Although it only has GDDR3 memory (as opposed to GDDR5), it should serve you well at that resolution.

That's the one i was going to suggest. The only problem is that one comes with DDR3 ram instead of DDR5. DDR5 would be better really.

If you can stretch your budget to £80, and sell the free game that comes with this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-294-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1699

Then you can bring it down to around £70 maybe, but still over budget.

If not go with the DDR3 one.

It'll be paired with a mid range core2duo so I think that may be the bottleneck in the setup?

7750 DDR3 card listed above should be good for you. There might be a small bottleneck in certain games but nothing too severe. Anything faster than this 7750 will be wasted with that cpu.

Thanks, just one more question if you fellas don't mind :)

How would the DDR5 version of the card compare and an x1800xt and a 8800GTX.

I have searched like mad but can't find a single comparison.

Cheers

Well honestly ive no idea, the power consumption will be much lower with the 7750 and it won't require any pci-e connections either though unlike those cards you listed. It will also be silent, unlike those other cards.

I can't give you benchmark results, but to give you an idea, the 8800GTX should be around at least twice the speed of the X1800XT, and the 7750/5770 should be around 15% faster than the 8800GTX.
