Hi I'm looking to get a new graphics card. it doesn't have to be the latest and greatest because I'll mainly be using it for flight & racing simulators on a projector that only goes up to 1280x720

Any reccomendations?

you didnt mention your budget, IF it is 130 or so then an X1950 PRO 256MB.

If not say what you have to work with,

*EDIT*

Also rest of your system and whether AGP or PCI-E.

I noticed it's also available in AGP, I'm thinking of buying a new chip/mobo/memory along with the pci 1950pro but if I could use my current rig to run it adequately then i'd save a few bob as I really dont need to run at high resolutions.

I'm currently running an athlon xp3200+ with an x800xl agp and 2 gig of ram. Would the 3200+ be powerful enough to run the 1950pro or would the card be wasted on my current system?

can you tell I've not bought any hardware in about 3 years :D

Well, maybe not "wasted" if you game at resonable resolutions (say 1680x1050) OR you play with high AA/AF. But you will be CPU limited.

If I were you, I would try overclocking your current CPU and see what you can get out of it (if you havent already).

For around 300, you could get a Conroe + motherboard + this graphics card...

Something to think of.

It would be good to see some reviews of the x1950Pro being powered by P4 and Athlon XP's because in theory the card can only draw data as fast as the processor feeds it intructions.

I'm sure an A64 system running with AGP would see a nice boost from a x1950Pro but I'm not so sure about the 3 year old cpus?

Thats some good advice Dark angel, cheers. It's definately given me another angle to think about. basically the less money I spend the better as the missus is about to have our second kid and she's looking at me funny cos I'm dropping a few hundred quid PC parts.... Keeps me out the pub I tell her :)

I've got my 360 for most of my gaming needs, all I want my PC to do is play FS9, LOMAC, GTR2, LFS, etc.. at 1280x720 with 4xaa and 8xAF with 0 drops below 30fps. If I can have that I'll be a happy man and it will be money well spent.

I think I'll go for the AGP verion of the 1950 first and bung it in my current setup. If it's not doing what I want I can always go for the E4300 or E6300 and the Asrock Dual Sata 775 AGP/PCIE like you recommended in the other thread as the 1950 will be compatible with that and I'll be set.

i run a [email protected] which is only 100mhz more faster than the xp3200 you have, and i have it paired up with a 7600gs and running on a lcd tv at a rez on 1360x768 and it runs games quite well. battlefield 2 runs great with most details maxxed out with 2xQ AA. the x1950pro would be ideal for the price and im considering getting one too for my agp system to replace the 7600gs so that i can use 6xAA in all games i play.

I've managed to snag 400 quid for a mobo/chip/card/mem so I'm in 2 minds now, I'll have a look about and a wee think :)
