Hello guys
A mate has asked me for advice on a system he's building but i'm not that up to date on todays GFX cards.
He's after a PCI-E Card for around £130 and i don't think he will be clocking it.

Thanks in advance

Yes and running old crappy dx9b and p.s 2.0b, hense your saying you want a 7800Gt :)

Yes that was a smart comment to make, let the flames begin!.

Personally i would go for the 6800GS if not overclocker, and the X800GTO2 if overclocking. both are good cards, but the 6800 is better at stock

But it was a true fact unlike the OI! NO SWEARING - Rilot in hardrive section who gave no real input to a plea for help by a user.

humley, im afraid your information is wrong, there are no "strictly 9.0b" graphics cards or 9.0a or c for that matter, your card either handles dx9 or it does not, the extension of a, b, or c, refers to improvements made in the software coding in the redistributable DX9 package that is then implemented across all directX 9 compatible computers, from thier a DX9 compatable graphics card can then make use of the new code.

As for me telling the original poster to get a GTO2, its because quite simply its a more powerful card and the better option for a budget of £130 pounds which he has, had he more I would have suggested a better alternative.

the reason I am after a 7800GT is for HDR and the extra sm3.0 effects and if your going to run a HDR capable game like I am, then you need power behind it to get a reasonable frame rate, this an X800GTO2 couldn’t give me even if it could do HDR and you’ll find the fps lacking on a 6800GT when compared to an X800GTO2 at normal quality settings, factor in HDR and some AA and the performance is terrible , hence the need of a 7800GT or better if you want good quality images with HDR and AA/AF.

And lastly who do you think you are to come in here after a couple of weeks and a few posts and pull apart someone’s post/thread? not to mention insulting another member behind their back because you didnt agree with a comment they made (which i will be only to happy to quote for you) learn some respect, if you don’t like someone’s suggestion that is your right, if you wish to counter it, that is your right, but you’ll get on a lot better here if you do it without insulting a persons suggestions, without mocking their hardware, and by doing your homework and learning instead of coming up with a daft comment like the directX 9.0b notion.

Now I got a free holiday for using that word last month, and I didn’t aim it at a member either. Hopefully yours will be with you shortly,

Any of

PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO16 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-055-PC)

Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 GTO2 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-101-SP)

OcUK GeForce 6800 GS 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-034-OK)

All close performance wise.

I wouldn't recomend the X800 GTO2 as the new Gen3 version is just a X800xl with a R430 Core i think you'd be better of with the 6800gs or for £17 quid more (£147) you could get the Powercolor X850xt which knocks the spots off all of them
