Hi all,

With a strict budget of £150, what's the best gaming card I can buy?

The RMA has been approved for my 7900GS but of course it's not in stock so I need to choose a replacment, and am going to add a bit more money so as to spend £150

Cheers :)

Is the 5770 any good compared to those?

5770 is a great card, but speed wise it is only about on par with the 4870.

However it uses far less power, runs cooler, has DX11 support, and has a quieter cooler.

So it comes down to if you want more speed (in which case go for a 260/4890), more efficient and features (in which case go for a 5770), or bang for buck (in which case go for the 4870 1GB).

stretch to the 5850 m8 and then overclock, will make it close to 5870 speeds for £100 less.

then when the 5850`s drop in price or a new Uber card is released add another one in crossfire and it will be infront of the pack

Cheers guys, I went for the 5770 in the end. The reviews/benchmarks all suggest very good performance at 1680x1050+ resolutions, and my monitors only run at 1280x1024 so I think it'll do me for a while :) I don't play *that* many games, I just go through phases, and as my 7900GS was knackered I thought I'd upgrade a bit :D

Lovely card, and if you ever get a second they absolutely fly in Crossfire ;)

I think I'll probably upgrade my mobo/cpu/ram first.

How much of a bottleneck will my 2.13GHz Core2Duo and 2GB of PC6400 RAM be to this card? I might have to OC the processor again ;)

I hate being out of the loop on modern hardware! Every year or so I'll read up, become knowledgable, buy something, then stop taking an interest for another year, know absolutely nothing, read up, etc etc.. :D

I take it you are on an E6400? in which case clock that baby up, those things did 3.2GHz+ easy which will be more than enough for the 5770 to stretch its legs :)

E6420. I did hvae it clocked to about 2.8 but I noticed the odd instability. Perhaps Windows 7 is more forgiving.

I'll have to find an Asus P5b overclocking guide again for all the recommended settings/voltages.
