Picture8.png

so any advice i have just under £300 as my budget for the card

Looks like you have already decided on you card with the X2 in your basket, if you must spend around £300 on a card then i guess the X2 is a good choice, the latest thing and all that.;)

I know they say that its never a good time to upgrade, at any stage of the year, with new technology available. But I do believe that is you wait till March, you may find better Tech to buy, and not that expensive over your current shopping list ;)

ok so i am running 2 22" monitors over dvi at 1680x1050

i want to be running crisis on top specs lol so if this will do it then i will save my self £100 and go for the gts

If you are considering the 8800GT the best look at the 512Mb version, the 1Gb doesn't really show much more speed than the 512Mb.
8800GT is fantastic for the £160-180 price range but if you have a little extra to spend look at the 8800GTX or GTS, especially if you're looking at playing Crysis. The 3870 x2 does very well in many other games though, but the price tag shows it

Also, what do you hope to do with 8Gb of RAM? Do you do HD video editing or anything? Otherwise 4Gb is plenty for anything else. If you're running XP 32Bit you can't even use all 4Gb

Here is a comparison of the cards in Crysis btw http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_3870_X2/7.html

To be fair, all cards on the market today struggle with crysis with max settings, forget about about very high settings in vista DX10, though DX9 high settings will be playable with the GTS at your rez.

but at 22", i would got for the 8800GT, but if you were to pull to a 24", id whole heartedly recomend the 3870x2. but then again, the x2 has a much better imagequailty

If you wanna keep the PC for a few years then go for X38 based motherboard (PCIe2 and Full Crossfire), cut the RAM to 4 GBs for now, maybe the Gskill 1000MHz ones? You can always upgrade the RAM. Keep the X2, its the best card right now unless you wanna save some money. Think about going to a 24'' though it can handle it, and you can always get a 2nd X2 later on when proper CrossfireX is released.

ok so best to go with the 512gts then? as i will upgrade monitors but not for another year or so.

and yer losts of 3d and video editing thats y i need the 8gb :D

also vista 64bit

The 3870 X2 is better and he can afford it. I say go for it.
Its not required, the GTS is the best option and you wont have to deal with XFIRE driver problems or games that don't scale well with XFIRE, the GTS wont suck as much power or give of as much heat and yet still perform stonking well, stick with your current mobo. This time next year, current hardware out now will be well dated, save your money and get the GTS and upgrade when the new tech hits, for an outlay of £200 pound on the GTS, it wont be a problem

i have the money to spend now so its a case of what will be best and last and let me play the new games and things

is the gts going to run everything or should i spend the extra £100 and get the x2 and will that do everything?

if there is not a lot of difference i will get the gts if its a difference worth £100 then i will get the x2

or should i go for a gtx

Right, your not fussed about spending the extra wonga, then get the X2, it has two GPU's, it should do the job very well for current and future titles, crysis DX 10 very high being the only exception. Choice between a GTX and the X2, i would go with the X2, £40 difference between the cheapest GTX and X2.

well i am fussed but only if its a wast i mean for an extra £30 on the gts i can get a gtx

so is the extra £100 going to be worth the cash?

Well if you are going to upgrade your screen any time soon then I would get the X2 but Raven is right. At 1680x1050 the GTS would manage that fine. For the extra £35 though I would get the GTX. It has a bigger interface than the GTS (384 bit for the GTX and 256bit for the GTS) and is more powerful but it's only a few titles that take advantage of the bigger interface.

The GTS or GTX would do you fine. GTX is a little bit better but if you are going to upgrade your screen then the X2 would be best.
