Hi,

A mate is getting a budget PC, I'm trying to convince him to up his budget slightly to leave upgrade options and also not to scrimp on the usual places people scrimp like PSU. He isn't into gaming all that much but does now and again so I'm trying to find the best card that doesn't require external power connecter as the PSU in the system he is thinking about doesn't have PCIe connectors.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

If the PSU doesn't have any PCI-E power connectors then I'd be wary of it anyway even if using a relatively low power graphics card.

The manufacturers obviously can't have much faith in it.

Yeah I know cr*p PSUs are dangerous and I explained that to him but it's his money and I have told him the dangers.

Oh and jeez how quick are people to reply on here these days :)

+1 certainly check he is using a good quality PSU

My above recommendation was assuming he is getting a decent PSU, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money (and power) on a gaming graphics card.

Convinced him on the merits of a decent power supply so that opens up other options in terms of a budget level GPU without the worry of the cr*p PSU taking everything out :)

Cheers for the replies, appreciated.
