Best Case for a HTPC?

Hi All,

What would be the best case for a HTPC in terms of layout, cooling, and space etc. I would be looking for the larger sized cases, e.g. Zalman etc. The colour needs to be black to match my other AV gear.

My budget is around £200.

I am open to all suggestions, not brand tied, etc.

Many thanks,

Ross.

CW02 is a tad bit more than 200 notes

I'd still go for a Silverstone case though (Got a LC16MR & pleased with it)

Off topic but what are you using for cooling in your LC16? I've got one running a system based around a C2D 6600 and I'm not happy with the amount of fan noise its generating.

Currently I have the supplied rear fans plus the 80mm side fan and the two front 92mm(?) fans ... those three are all Asaka(?) Ambers ...

3x92mm & 2x80mm Nexus all modded to 7v.

These would be the nearest to what I've got (in terms of price & fan speed)

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm liking the looks of the Silverstone grandia, especially at that keen price!

Keep the suggestions coming!

Antec fusion or the Silverstone Grandia GD01B

I'm building an HTPC with the former.

I have both of these cases, My main rig is in the grandia because it takes ATX motherboards and as more room and I use the Fusion for my HTPC and I'm more than happy with both cases :)

If you need more than one DVD drive and don't want to use M-ATX Motherboard then go for the Grandia if not get the Fusion as it's cheaper, well built and a very nice looking case, you will be pleased with either case though.

I'm now undecided between the two I mentioned...

Hey melbourne720!

I'm also looking at a suitable chassis to house a microATX Lounge-Box and I am currently thinking the ANTEC NSK2480 is a contender . . .

It seems to offer real value for money considering it comes with a quality Earthwatts 80PLUS® PSU!

Just wondered what your thoughts on this particular case were as it's basically the same as the Fusion you shortlisted sans VFD and Volume control. I'm thinking with 2x 120mm fans that silent cooling won't be an issue! :D

The Antec NSK 2480 is the case of choice for me when I build my HTPC. I find it looks great, has loads of room inside and is pretty well layed out. I think the supplied fans will be a bit noisy unless on slow setting (I have an antec p182 and solo and had to change the tri-cool fans).

Hi Big Wayne

Looks great, and given you don't really need the volume knob or the vfd you get the best bits at a much lower price.

I'm going with the fusion, mainly because I researched it to death and it suits my needs, but that ANTEC NSK2480 looks really good. In fact I should have probably gone for the ANTEC NSK2480, as that double DVD drive space looks handy too!

I think its the 120mm fans that make it a good choice, I know two htpc gurus and they both wish they could use larger fans in their HTPC cases. Smaller fans have to go like the clappers just to shift any air.

When are you planning on building it? I 'should be building mine either this week or next, depends how my building work in my house goes this week.

Just to stick my 10c in i recentlly built a HTPC based on the Silverstone lc19 slimline case and it not only looks fantastic but is near ilent operation it cost around 120 quid with free 120w fanless psu so you would need to be carefull with partnering kit and it only takes the special cooler from silverstone but worth a look.
