Well it appears this forum is more suited to the high-end VR experience, but having got a free Cardboard at a Google event I'm slowly getting sucked into the whole VR thing. There's tons of cheap (<£45) VR headsets on Amazon, but which to buy?

Just looking for something a bit more comfortable. It's still a phone gimmick to me but it's quite fun and the girlfriend has enjoyed some of the videos I've showed her (like the Muse music video and the Jungle Book stuff).

Is it worth getting something like the Homido over the Tepoinn for example?

I have an LG G4, so Samsung's Gear VR was out of the question. I got my hands on Merge VR and it's certainly an upgrade from Google Cardboard.

Amazon clearly know I'm looking. The Teppoin is on a lightning deal down to £13.50. Itchy finger...

EDIT: Make that £11.78. Can't say no to that. Bought :p

From what I have seen the Merge looks like the best bet at the moment.

Can anyone else comment? The price of these third party units varies hugely and I have heard that a lot of them are simply Chinese film viewers and not actually configured for Google cardboard.

If it is any help I have a Nexus 5x

I think you're right. The Tepoinn/Shinecon is unfortunately, totally pants. Really disappointed. Everything about it is brilliant, but the FOV is awful. I can't believe through all the reviews I saw that nobody mentioned it. The Cardboard is far superior. The Tepoinn/Shinecon is like watching a little square of content out in front of you, thoroughly pants and no immersion whatsoever. I'll go back to using my Cardboard!

Hopefully I'll be able to return it, but if not it was only £11. Such a shame because the lenses, build quality, focus knobs and everything Are really nice. Quite bizarre.

I ended up ordering a cheap cardboard v2 (not an official £15 one one) it's really good but the left lens seems to have a little ripple in it.

I think I the Merge is still the best official cardboard device. Are there any with higher quality glass lenses?

How's the fov with the Merge? I really don't trust any of the reviews now after the Tepoinn/Shinecon debacle. None of them mentioned how terrible the fov was!

I don't know I don't have a merge, but I hear it is about the best. I find it weird there are not better cardboard devices out there.

I am waiting for the second generation Mattel unit to be released.

Merge VR
Daydream View

I have a Sony Z5, any one got any takers?

I have glasses so wanted something with adjustable focal length? I am only looking for something to mess about with, does anyone have any suggestions...

Thanks in advance!
