Best codecs for my HTPC box ??

Hi,

recently been messing around with upscaling dvd's etcand think i've messed it all up and want to start over again.

Going to uninstall all ossible codecs and was wondering what you guys reccomend ?

ffdshow
quicktime alternative
real alternative
media player classic

any others ?

using windvd as my dvd decoder as had problems with nvideo purevideo to play back live tv.
