Best Controls for Elite

Depends what your budget is. The thrustmaster flight x is a good option at 40 quid, but if you have the cash then you might prefer an x52

I'll add the option of building your own :D (or adding a few controls). Elegant: No, but it helps :D

Otherwise, yeah, thrustmaster or X52

Edit: or the Warthog if you're loaded :D

Do build yourself some form of head tracking too (or wait for VR headsets later in the year).

For a more classy form of head tracking try here. This place do an easy full kit (needs soldering though).

Mods: if any of those links are competitor feel free to slap me, I THINK we're safe.

i will probably get this chair/cockpit for using with the DK2 and x52 setup (£99) im ordering a dk2 in couple of weeks (hopefully!) Yes even though the release date of the retail version (crescent bay or whatever it will be called) hovers between xmas 2015 and early 2016. I really cant wait until then to play Elite!

Hold off the DK2, the HTC Vive will be later in the year. Blows the DK2 out of the water.

you are probably correct but the heart wants what it wants! I think there is a chance there will be slippage in release dates for both consumer versions of the OR and the Vive.

That Wart Hog stick looks seriously bad ass but a little over the top, like the
X52 but no where near me has stock and I need a stick now!! Thrustmaster it is then which looks pretty decent to be fair.

Coffee to stop you falling asleep during those long warps :D

Braben says he uses a xbox pad, thats what I use and just use keyboard for galaxy map etc.

So what's the best joystick for use with Elite?

I found the X52 to be perfect for the game...maybe opt for the Pro though. The 'vanilla' X52 doesn't stand up to well to being overworked.

Another must for Elite Dangerous is Voice Attack, for bringing vessel panels, executing panel functions and even executing pre typed comms messages.

Finally, I would also recommend TrackIR. Makes the game feel much more immersive being able to look around your cockpit with head movements but this particularly piece of kit is very overpriced for what it is.

I found myself getting deeply hooked on Elite Dangerous for about a month, until I had figured out how the games works and realised that it was mostly an empty grind fest with the game mechanics ensuring that any path that I actually wanted to take in the game, was well and truly nonviable. This was back in Feb 2015 however, and I believe that there has been a lot added to the game since then. I however decided that ED needs at least another year in development before I will give it another look.

What do you mean "vanilla" x52 ? Do you mean with default configuration?

i planned on getting this one

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00030GS...UTF8&colid=2HLMA60TPOG9A&coliid=IJPXMGNVVZS0J

only difference is this one is silver and the other x52 is black.

Also regarding trackir. I know there are folk on the ED forum helping folk with a custom made Trackir thingy available for £40 or something like that.

X55 here, perfect for ED. DK2 on the way as well....I know I should wait but meh, I can legitimately claim it's a professional training expense :)

That is the X52 that I have. The other one is the X52 Pro, which is almost identical, but a bit better made, or so I believe.

I wouldn't be so sure about the 'home made' head movement workarounds. What makes TrackIR great is an extremely high polling rate which means zero lag in having your head movements executed in game. With the alternatives I believe that there is meant to be a degree of lag etc...... But you would have to look into that for yourself.

With all the right toys at your disposal Elite Dangerous really does feel great to play....fantastic flight model n all that and some nice visuals here n there....now if only they could knock it all up into an engaging multiplayer pVp experience.

I have the EDtracker for head tracking and do not notice any lag at all. After a lot of hours it does start to drift but not noticeable enough to be a problem and only takes 10 mins to sort out if it should ever become too much.

Only cost £20 I think (no more than 25)
