So a swapped out my old 3900x for a 5950x and during stress testing I noticed temps are hitting the 90c max. I have a 7 year old 240 AIO Corsair cooler at the moment. Wondering what best to replace it with?

Was looking at the NZXT Kraken 360, Corsair NAUTILUS 360, or maybe be quiet! Silent Loop 2 360mm

Also looking at the arctic freezer 3, but read that can be tricky to install

Note: don't really want RGB fans

I do think these chips are designed to hit their max and be fine.

I know mine is the gen after but when stress tested my 7950x immediately hits 95 degrees with a 360mm 150i and sits there indefinitely. But it's designed to run 24/7 at 95 degrees basically.

I think an aio lacks the immediatethermal capacity of a larger heatsink used with an air cooler

Bit late but 360mm ek water aio using noctua fans... my 5950x is hitting 65c while using all cores encoding at 4.4GHz.

But then I haven't played too heavily with oc etc other than basic pbo and adjusting thermal limits to 70c in bios etc, I wanted stability over absolute performance.

Yeah 90c is too high
Will start thermal throttling
Am4 shouldn't hit 90/95c like am5 does
And sit there all day at 95c

Hard to compare against my 5950x
As got a custom loop
But even with a 3080ti dumping 300w
Into the loop as well
Don't get remotely close to 90c

Though depends what you're stress testing with too
Me I prefer just doing whatever
I actually use the pc for over running something like
Prime95 etc

Ok, so I have my kraken installed and oh what a difference :p

It's barely going over 60c now. Must have been an issue with my old Corsair cooler.

Wondering whether it is best to have the fans on exhaust or intake direction? The temps get quite a bit higher on exhaust, but intake will mean a lot of dust build-up.

I've changed the fan settings on my kraken from silent to performance. Bit louder under load but cooler now.

Think I prefer that to the dust problem :p
