Best cooling options for 12700K

Been out the game for 5 years, but looking to build a 12700k based system.

Does anyone have any recommendations ?

I am likey to give it a mild overclock once it's built and working
 
Very pleased, really solid build quality, quiet, and runs cool. The 12700kf like all modern chips on small dies get very hot quickly, but this cooler is excellent at getting the heat away efficiently.
 
If I was going to use an AIO I would install my X62 Kraken with the socket adapter bracket that's arriving today. In preference I would buy the Arctic Freezer 2 now based on Gamer Nexus reviews.

However just so you have some balance I'm currently using my old Noctua 140mm air cooler which I also received a socket 1700 adapter bracket for and that's currently running 58-60 DegC while playing Icarus with all options enabled etc. 3440 x 1440 res.

12700K has a mild OC but nothing special.
 
Installed the Arctic Freezer ii 240mm on my i5 12600k - absolute doddle in the Lian Li Lancool II 205 mesh which is a midi tower. Sat nicely on a MSI z690 MAG Tomahawk DDR4 board with plenty of clearance around the VRM.

Thanks for the input. What are temps with Arctic Freezer 2 compared to "old Noctua 140mm air cooler"? What is "old \Noctua 140mm air cooler"?
Trying to find out how good / bad air cooling is vs CLC on these new CPUs. ;)
Also, Thermalright's new Frost Commander 140 w/ 5x 8mm heatpipes with fans at 50% (55% = 850rpm) runs 1c cooler NH-D15 with fans at full speed.

So my old Noctua NH-C14 cooler would be similar to the NHD15 tested in the Gamers Nexus vid linked above just not quite as good as it's a horizontal design rather than the more popular tower style. Still it's big and has 2 x 140mm fans running on it. Quick scan through the GN vid the X62 AIO which I have is a couple of degrees behind the Arctic cooler which is approximately 10 degrees better then the large tower air coolers. So better but maybe not by as much as you might guess.

I tend to like an AIO as you can directly vent hot air out of a case compared to air coolers which vent in the middle of the case.

Are you trying to troll me or is it that you don't understand simple English sentences?
I asked you in simple English what your "old Noctua 140mm air cooler" was.


Then in another sentence on another line I said that Thermalright Frost Commander 140 is better than NH-D15.



Two completely different sentences about completely different things. One sentence has nothing to do with other.

So worth buying something better ?
Probably not worth the time and expense. I would use what it comes with and see how hot it runs. I've tested lots of TIM and found only a few degrees difference between top brands. Of course liquid metal / gallium TIM gives a couple degrees lower temps, but also much harder to work with and tends to at least stain IHS / cooler base.

My go-to TIM now is Thermalright TF8. Not the easiest to use as it's stiff, so I heat it in hot water to soften it makes it easy to apply. Getting a good seat / TIM print is more important than what TIM is used .. and of course the easier TIM is to apply the less chance of problems in seat / print. ;)
