Best cossacks game in the series?

European Wars is a classic, it's an excellent game. Also look at American Conquest, it's a very cool alternative set in the Americas.
 
Back to War, simply because it contains all features ( units, ui improvements, nations) from the Art of War and European wars.

But it's been received badly due to only adding some single missions and asking full price for it.

Art of war is good too, European wars was the first one and lacks some UI improvements iirc.
 
Has anyone had this running well on Steam (Windows 10) at all? I'd love to get back into it, as I played it more than any other RTS when I was a kid.
 
I see Cossack 3 is due to be released in a couple of weeks (Sept 20th I think)

I'd be tempted maybe just to wait and get that... It looks true to the original from the screen shots I've seen.

I just installed these on Win 10 last night, GOG versions. I had to enable Direct Play in order for it to start the game. Do this in Windows add/remove software->enable windows features->legacy->enable direct play. Also played it safe and set compatibility to Windows X P SP3 and run as administrator. Game runs OK but will not remember your settings between sessions, other than graphics resolution. E.g if you set it to slow mode it will go back to fast mode next time. Also for me music volume cannot be changed, its either full blast or off, slider does nothing.

Getting it to work on W10 sounds like a faff, but that new Cossacks 3 looks amazing. Will probably end up getting that version instead.
