Looking for some advice on a new CPU cooler.

My poor Phenom II 955 BE is hitting 60c at load, dangerously close to the safe limit, using the stock cooler while playing DragonAge. :( The stock cooler is quite dusty so I am hoping a good clean will bring the temps down until I get my new one.

I've been looking at the CoolerMaster V8 and Zalman CNPS10X Extreme, does anyone have any personal experience with either of these coolers? If not, can someone point my in the right direction? I have a budget of £50 but I'd prefer to spend less if possible.

Akasa nero and HDT1283 are good budget options at less than £25.

Watch out for the orientation of the coolers as many can only point vertically and wil get in the way of any ram with large heatsinks. Also your case width may limit the height of the cooler you can fit in.

Have a look on frostytech.

I fitted a Titan Fenrir to a build I made for guy at work. His machine had a socket 939 Athlon 64 which I replaced with an 'bay OEM dual core CPU. The stock single core cooler wasn't up to the job.

Custom PC recently highly recommended the Titan Fenrir so he got one. It is about the size of a 2-bedroom house... Anyway after cutting bits off the Antec 900 case sidepanel fan mount we were in business!!

The core temperatures I was getting were really sweet. The Titan Fenrir is obviously really designed for Quad Core CPUs...

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Tried the True? Keeps my phenom II x3 with 4 cores unlocked at 1.5v at 3.5ghz 45 under load.

Looks great and slightly scary. Does the pack include a mounting kit for K8 CPU's? Also is it good enough to cool without fans? This is my first attempt at aftermarket cooling so I don't won't anything too daunting.

Will do. I used FrostyTech to get the two in my original post.

I have looked at Fenrir I think I should be OK with the height, I don't have any side panel fans mounted in my Scout case at the moment. My only concern is the clearance at the top of the case - it's pretty tight.

Titan Fenrir! I have one on a 965BE at 3.8ghz @ 1.5v, always stays under 50C on load.

If it'll fit then go for it dude, tis a really good cooler.

I have a synche mugen 2 on my athlon x4 630 (overkill personally) and have it clocked from 2.8Ghz to 3.65Ghz with a 1.5vcore. Temps are 25C idle and hit around 47-48C prime blend for 8 hours etc. When i set to stock voltage/speed, the fan for the psu doesnt even spin up and sits around 18-22 idle depending on room temp.

Overkill for a athlon x4? YES most deffo. Worth it for peice of mind when the voltage i put through the chip, YES!

I know chip models are different however the new athlon x4's are builts on the phenom setup so hopefully you should see the same.
