I'm looking for an excellent CPU cooler for my new CPU (probably Conroe). Having never spent much on fans before, it's something i've probably overlooked. I'm looking at either the Titan Amanda, or one of them mofo Zalman coolers. Any suggestions on how these perform? I reckon they will both fit into my Tai-Chi case.

The amanda's look like monsters and I think they perform well, but are at quite a premium. If you're looking at the lower scale, the Tuniq Tower 120 is a monster too and is fantastic price/performance. Have a search around these forums for opinions on the tuniq.

Dammit, I just noticed the amanda requires a PCI card for the cooling management. Since I will soon have only 1 PCI slot spare (used for x-fi card) I doubt i'll be able to make use of it.

Are there any probs with the Zalman fans?

i have a scythe ninja and it idles at 25c right now and full load at 42c

(my room temp is 16c right now)

when my rooms 20c it idles at 30c and full load at 47c

btw thats Fanless! would be cooler if i had a fan :)

If you have the money go for the Amanda.

The tuniq is meant to be great, although my problem is space I've gone ahead and ordered the Zalman 9700, will arrive on wednesday :)

Well my Zalman 9500 cools my e6600@3GHz just fine with the fan on low. So the 9700 should be even better / quieter :D

I was thinking of getting a Thermalright Ultra 120 with a Noctua NF-S12 120mm fan. Both have good results in benchmarks and think the Noctua is fairly quiet but cant remember the soundclip. I think you can attach two fans tot he HS one bringing air in and one with pulling it out. :D

At 3GHZ, with an E6600? That seems remarkably cool with a fanless cooler?! :)
