well guys what do i buy?

been offered a couple of opties 146's/148's running around 3ghz or what would be the best gaming option new under 120 quid in skt 939????

a bit higher or a chunk lower is ok just recomend me some value goodness :)

How long are you planning on keeping it?

Short term - single core A64 4000+ as it's faster than the cheapest dual core chip in single threaded apps (the vast majority at the moment)

Long term - dual core A64 X2 3800+ - dual core is the future and more and more applications will become multithreaded giving a large boost on dual core chips

interesting

thr main app i use supports multi threading and multiple cpus :)

but those cheap opterons hmmm 100 notes for a 146 putting nigh on 3 ghz out

whats the thoughts guys and gals?

They are tempting although you might not get one that's guaranteed to do 3GHz for about £100

If the main app you use supports multiple CPUs then I'd strongly recommend getting a dual core CPU as it'll be a lot faster than an equivalently clocked single core chip

The X2 3800+ chips are proving to be good clockers, so you should get 2.6-2.7GHz out of it if you're lucky
