Best CPU for Gigabyte P35C-DS3R overclocking noob!

Bought an HD Camcorder now and the old Core 2 Duo E2180 (stock speeds!) in the above mobo is pretty much going for a walk with the faries at the bottom of the garden every time I load up Premiere Pro!!!

What's the best "bang for my buck" that I can pop into this motherboard.

Running the latest F12 bios with 4 x 1Gb DDR2.

I've never overclocked before, but may be persuaded to tweak things a little if I can get some reasonable increases without de-stabilising my system and as long as it's easy to do.

Any help appreciated.

Tony

Any entry level Quad Core CPU with some overclocking will bring a suitable speed improvement over the E2180, Gigabytes website should have a list of what Quad CPU's your current BIOS supports.

Bang for buck is always going to include overclocking. If buying new from here specifically for video editing I'd go for the Q9450 here

I notice the 9550 is not that much extra, would the 9450 be just as good.

What sort of safe speeds would I be able to get it to run at? I'm assuming that it's a fairly simple to bump it up a little.

Sorry about the questions, had a PC since a DX2-66 but never overclocked, unless you count pressing theTURBO button on my first PC !!!

If the 9550 is not a lot more then go for that.
As to easy overclocks, with the 9550 you will almost certainly be able to bump up the FSB to 400Mhz wilth little or no voltage changes.
Between there and 450Mhz you will need to tweak a bit more.

So 3.4Ghz easy, you will have no problem.
up to 3825Mhz will require a bit of tweaking.
Above that will require Ninga skills.
