Best CPU for gaming

Hi guys,

I purchased an AMD APU processor for my media center recently and after looking at some of the features such as Mantle and the ability to crossfire the APU with compatible cards. I started thinking about the benefits this could offer on my main machine which I only use for gaming anyway and I don't feel like my i5 4670k is really being used to its full extent.

My question is if I were to switch to using the APU with my AMD R9 280x in my main machine would I see a benefit or would I be better of sticking with the Intel option.

Stick with the i5, no question.

The APU would bottleneck the 280x, and you couldn't crossfire the onboard graphics with it. There would be no upside to the switch at all.

Switching to the APU for gaming would be a downgrade.
The i5 works with Mantle.

if you were building a thrifty gaming set then maybe APU but certainly stick with i5

The whole HUMA thing will be very beneficial in the future but currently we await for useful application of the iGPU in a modern high end system. Obviously they are perfect for mobile systems and low budget gaming systems but I am talking about using multiple GPUs in parallel without any overhead. I think the ecosystem mainly needs software support and a lot of research in the area before this is viable.

Definetly stick with the I5, its a great processor
