best CPU for gaming

I went the 2700X route and spent the money saved towards a 2080Ti.

If the GPU had been cheaper I may have opted for the Intel CPU instead but I’d already decided on the next Ti.

If you are only playing at 1080, you may aswell forget the 9900, the 2080ti, will be just a waste.
I had a 6600k and a gtx 970 and played most games at 1080 144hz ultra settings.

what if i went 2700x, 16 gm ram and mobo, and go for maybe a lesser card, i heard some chat about vega64 ? 1080ti not worth it at this stage ? i will be mainly gaming and browsing internet etc, what about monitors, whats the difference between 1080, 1440p and 4k, any disadvantages, or advantages over these types ? thanks !!

Nvidia don’t make the 1080ti any more, so your best bet is to pick one up second hand.

It’s a beast of a card and I play at 1440p and 144hz with ultra settings and it handles almost everything I throw at it.

It all depends on what Monitor and resolution you want to run at.

Some people go for 1080, others go for 1440 and some go for 4K. Some even go for ultra wide or duel screen setups. It all depends what you want, with 4K you’ll be capped at 60fps, the other 2 you can go over 144hz, my monitor goes upto 165hz for example.

currently have a iiyama 24 inch, at 1080p so i will stick with that for now, i think i will wait on the cpu market a bit, graphics cards i dont think the prices will go down much, cause i head nvidia pretty much are owning it right now

would a 1080 ti be a good jump from a gtx 970 ? adn cpu mobo ram i need a good jump from a i5 4690k

A massive jump. But it’ll either be expensive as it’s end of life or secondhand.

There have been some decent suggestions so far TBH. Gaming at 1080P, save your money on an expensive GPU, it won’t be required. Spend more on the CPU/RAM/mobo. Gaming at 4K, be prepared to spend lots more on the GPU instead or as well as if you’re feeling flush.

I think you need to have a good think on what you want, and how long you want it to last.
Is this going to last a few years, and what resolution will you stick to?

If you’re going to stick at 1080 resolution, 970/980/980ti will be your best bet.
If you want to upgrade to 1440, then either a 1080ti or vega64.

yea i think im going to stick with 1080, im mainly looking forward to this game early next year, i think i may keep saving and see how it plays on this old setup before splashing out, but i definetely want to upgrade to newer parts soon, AMDs new ryzen chips might shake the market up a bit

Im thinking i might get around medium settings, some high ?

Or you could buy a 2070/2080 and stick with the rest of your existing setup until you feel the time is right to upgrade?

9900K with that GPU.

Ryzen 3000 probably wont see the light of day for another 4 or 5 months.

I'm currently running a 2700x & Vega 64 PC with a 75hz 3440x1440 Freesync monitor & I''m very happy with the gaming performance, If you plan on getting a monitor as well as a PC whatever resolution you choose also go for either a G-sync or Freesync model depending on which GPU you choose. If you choose Freesync be careful which Freesync monitor you buy as some have better support than others due to the open source nature of the tech, The main feature you want included is LFC (Low Framerate Compensator). AMD have a web page set up to help you sort the good monitors from the bad.
