best CPU for this board?

i would buy a used one, its not worth the expense of buying one new, they are way overpriced.
Used Q6600's gor for around £50, and are good overclockers.
just get a G0 revision one, on your board with a good cooler, you should easily get to 3.2ghz

Is this for yourself? As you're currently on an AM3+ board.
The best CPU would probably be a Q6600 for price/performance, or you could get a Q9550.

This is for a new PC I'm building. It's for gaming purposes. I just want a good gaming cpu for it and I don't want to OC it.

If you are sticking with that board and don't want to overclock then you should aim for a 45nm core2 as they have higher stock clocks. If you are looking for something to play modern games I think you should aim a little higher than this tho..

Not sure why you're building a new PC when you have an AM3+ board.
If you want a good CPU for gaming, no OC'ing, I told you, it's the 2500k.

Oh, then if you've already got the board, go for the Q6600, if you haven't already got the board, then get a cheap AM3 board and then go for a Phenom II x2 or an Athlon II x4.
