Ive got the bug a bit since my GPU update. What the best CPU which fall into this spec? I know quads and c2d arent the in thing anymore so might be looking at second hand. Ive currently got a Q8200 running at 2.8gig.

CPU
LGA 775 socket for: - Intel® Core2 Quad and Intel® Core2 Duo
Supports Intel Enhanced Memory 64 Technology (EMT64T)
Supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST)
Supports Intel Hyper-Threading Technology
Supports 1333/1066/800MHz FSB

Price wise about £150

Your CPU at the moment is fine. They run at about the same pace as the Quad Athlon's like the X4 640 I run at the moment.

What motherboard? Their is no motherboard in the thread to compare a CPU to.

Well as you are running a LGA775 board which is fairly ancient in computing terms, so you are very limited with what you can put into that system.

So you run the Core 2 Quad Q8200. Nice little cpu you have there. You cannot really put anything else in a LGA775 motherboard that will run faster apart from the Q6600 which has 4mb more cache than your Q8200, higher clock speed at stock and a hell of a lot better at overclocking than your Q8200.

You can hit 3.3ghz or more with the Q6600. The only pros of your Q8200 over the Q6600 is that it runs cooler than the Q6600.

Apart from that there is nothing really separating the two processors.

Keep your Q8200, overclock it to around 2.8ghz which shouldn't be too hard with a decent cooler and you will have smooth runnings for a while.

IF you have the money, build a new system as the Core 2 Quads are now dying out. Get the i5 2500K. Best gaming processor in the world and overclocks to 4.5ghz very easily!
