as title says. Building a new system purely for gaming, just need some input on what would be the best cpu <200

thanks

are you looking at ADM? or intel?
absolute would be E8500
or AMD I'd recomend the 720 they reportedly clock well and are decent buy and will offer relative future proofness being new socket and paired with a true AM3 mobo with DDR3

not really fussed if its amd or intel, just want the best one possible for less than £200. Dont really fancy an i7 just due to the amount needed for the mobo + ram

E8400s usually do 4ghz pretty easily.

In your position I'd go for a Phenom X3 720 or an E8400. Both are great CPUs.

What he said, although I'd be cheap and go for AM2+ board and ddr2 since they're tried&tested (some nice OC mobos), cheap and ddr3 just insn't a big enough increase for the price atm. Although if you're future proof mad then it's worth weighing up.

AM3 720 BE or the E8400. The AMD is cheaper and can be paired with either DDR2 or 3, the latter making it a bit more future proof.

theres only about £40 in it, unless youre really stretched Id recomend AM3 + DDR3

Yeah fair enough last time I was looking the selection of 790fx am3 boards was a bit stingy. Just had a look and in the last month they've rolled a lot out so that negates my other point. Go ddr3 :p
