Best CPU for video work?

Hiya all

I've been out of the loop processor wise, so am a little confused as to what's great and what's not so great.

Basically, I currently have a P4 3.2 socket 478, which is used predominantly for video work. My workload has increased of late, and I'm looking for to build a new rig round a fast performing, but affordable (say around £150 or less?) CPU. Not fussed by Intel or AMD, performance per pound is what I'm looking for.

intel core 2 duo is what you want for sure, if you can stretch to it, an e6600 for the extra cache which will help you, else an e6400
