Best cpu upgrade MSI U180 laptop its soooo slow!!!

its not worth spending the money on, an atom processor is umm sorry no other word for it .. crap. get a cheap AMD A6/A8 or i3 laptop and put an SSD in it. wasting your time on the ATOM imo

if cash is short look on auction sites for elitebooks which are dirt cheap 2nd hand.

Or even a used Dell E-Series e.g. E4310 or E6420 - both have I5s, support a decent amount of RAM, and will run rings around that Atom (and have a usable screen rather than the 1024x600 of the U180)

I only want laptop to run mpps and vagcom for vag cars

yes.. but you cant polish a turd. an Atom makes a Celeron look good and that's saying something. an SSD will certainly improve any laptop. I have one on a Core2Duo and it flys. and add the extra 1gb of ram. its a standard 2.5" drive and is located under the keyboard..

I still think your wasting your money, however.. you can always put the SSD in another laptop later if you decide

Any ideas of a really small laptop around £100 that's better ?

Did you even look at the Dell E4310 I suggested? £87.50 on the Auction site at the minute. £99 gets you one with 4GB ram and a bigger hard drive.

Will run rings around an atom netbook. If you need a serial port for vagcom etc then you can buy a port replicator that has one.

Serial port? Sorry could you explain

And there over 110 on eBay :(

Serial port is used on old diagnostic cables, newer ones use USB.

There are definitely some on there for £99 and some cheaper than that. I literally typed "dell e4310" into eBay and there are some on the first page.

I second this.. just looked myself your getting a great laptop for that price.

Don't really like the design reviews they there screen hinges are flimsy but I guess if it's best for price I'll have to get it . Thanks for info

You're difficult to please! For under £100 I don't think you can really be that fussy about the design (which personally I don't think is any different to any other laptop)

As for the hinges, can't say they have been a problem, and we have had several of these laptops (and other E series) at work.

They are business laptops built to last (unlike an MSI netbook), and even if they break, they are so common, spares are readily available (e.g. on ebay - msi U180 hinges, 10 listings - e4310 hinges, 58 listings)
