i need a credit card, i always said i would not get one! but for onlines sales and returning my apple product it seems i need one!

so anyone know of a good company with a good rate? i don't need a transfer one though... just a good joining rate

If you want one with a decent rate there's a Barclaycard one (Barclaycard Simplicity) that does 6.8% I think and I'm sure Capital one do a 6.9% card.

As above really - there is no such thing as a "Good Credit Card" as they all allow you to spend what you don't have.
If you don't have it should you really spend it?

If you have good disciplin then they can be of use.
I like the extra level of insurance you have with a credit card purchase - I always use my Egg Blue online, however I then also immediately pay what I've spent off via Switch.
That way it's almost the same as only using Switch, however as the payment was made by Credit Card I do get the levels of assurance if the retailer vanishes without my money, they don't deliver etc.

Oh and don't forget - whatever card you do decide to get make sure the very first thing you do is set up a Direct Debit for the minimum payment to be taken directly from your bank each month.
That way we avoid the "near weekly" my bank has charged me £20 - £30 to tell me I missed a payment *Wah, wah* posts :)

Stupid question but you pay yours off straight away with your Switch card therefore don't need to do the above. I've never had a credit card before you see. :o

just another bit of info..

Although having a CC means you could get into debt, it does mean that if you buy things online and they go bust, you can take action against the credit card company as well as the retailer to get your money back if you have any problems.

So if you use it wisely, it can be good

(however, I don't and have a huge debt and hate the *******!!)

apple said i need a cc to return my ipod, as they need somthing to bill if they send me a new one first :( i said what about switch and they said no! the web site was the same too :(

Peoplt that dont have any self control should not own CC's.

There is such thing as a credit card. I have an Egg Money card. I use it instead of my debit card and pay off my outstanding balance every month. You get a minimum of 1% cashback on everything that goes on there. They pay you your cashback at the end of every March each year. I got £80 for doing nothing. Free money, you cant argue with that. I got 10% of my ipod too from Apple.

Nothing wrong with credit cards if used wiseley, in fact they have several positive points, such as if the retailer goes bust after taking payment but you don't yet have your goods etc.

People who poo poo CC's without knowing the facts are losing out imo. All it takes is a modicum of self control.

Used them for years and never ever paid a single days interest on any money, in fact in the last 6 months I have made £120 on my morgan stanley card alone from the 2% cashback, free money = good imho.

If you want to put some effort in there is plenty of money to be made off stoozing on the 0%'s.

Plus if you really do need to borrow, some cards offer 0% on purchases for 12 months, you don't get a better rate than that.

No - your right, that maybe didn't quite make sense :)
I think it would have read better if I said that in 99% of cases I make the payment on Switch within a couple of days of making the Credit Card payment.
However, especially with my wedding coming up in October this year, we've just recently let a few things slip past.
By having the Direct Debit setup I can accidentally forget to make a payment or simply decide not to make one and Egg will always get that minimum payment each month which is the important bit.

Well not bloody Natwest anyway. My sister had one, but then Natwest cancalled it (despite her being in good credit) and refused to give her any specific criteria.

Funnily enough, it was about a month after her marrying an Algerian....
