Reading the other topics on here makes me pine for the Diablo II days which were fantastic at small LAN's

What's the best modern day RPG game you can play at a small LAN. Note this rules out online games like WoW, I don't have the time, inclination or interest. I like games with a defintitive beginning and end :)

Any suggestions?

Neverwinter Nights 2? Someone mentioned 'Hellgate london' to me once?
I remember we played Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 a few years back. They were good but just seemed like clones of Diablo II without capturing what made that game great (a proper ongoing story line with FMV that made you feel you were achieving something at the end of each chapter) Plus the COOP felt like a bolt on rather than a thought out way to play.

hellgate london is a mmorpg i believe..

The obvious choice would be baldurs gate 1/2, fantastic games.

Neverwinter nights is ok, the original had loads of downloadable modules for it, not sure about the 2nd.

Hellgate London is the spiritual successor to Diablo, and loads of fun with a few mates. I'm not sure if you have to have an internet connection for it though. There's an offline version that you can play solo, and then online it's like guild wars - with hubs where everyone gets together, and then a load of instanced adventure areas for your group. Don't know if you can do a lan version of this though.

Titan Quest is great fun, proper old school diablo style mass murder 'em up, you and a friend against the hordes of hell

Oh and you can pick it up with the expansion for fifteen of your english pounds.
