Best defragger

Surly the whole point of defragging your hard drives is to improve system performance? Until the performance of your system starts to suffer and is noticeable to you, why do you need to worry about defragging at all especially individual folders?

In my experience, doing a proper defrag with a decent app (I use PerfectDisk myself) can help quite noticeably with game load times and stutter.

All you're buying is a GUI.

The underlying process is the same.

Personally I just leave the stock Vista one on... it schedules it to run every night on all disks. Good enough for me. Defragging is an overrated practice anyway.

install o&o, and see the current mess your drives are in

defraggler does the job for me, the standard defragger is generally a nono. But if you're casual, windows will sufficiently (just) do the job.

I remember in an old edition of PC Format the technical guru (Louis I think) was asked how often you should defrag your hard drive in the letters pages.

Answer: Between once and never

thought it was funny. Anyway I remember a few recommendations for Defraggler

I'd rather see some benchmarks confirming that O&O, or any other third-party defragger for that matter, gives any significant (or even measurable) improvement in system performance over the built-in tool.
