The Logitech one seems to the only one I've seen mentioned or recommended. Some webcams have them built in but I find those sound sucky!
As good as the desktop ones are, they'll never be as good as something on a headset or at least clipped nearer to your mouth and this is especially true if there's any background noise to contend with.
a lot of headset microphones are pretty good quality. I think theres quite a cheap one someone i game with uses fatality i think? sounds really really clear
I use a logitech USB microphone (even though I have a pretty decent sound card) and it works great. The audio quality is good, it can pick up your voice from quite a distance and the light-up on/off button is very useful.
I hate speaking to people using desktop mics tbh Same as I hate speaking to people in cars on hands free kits.
At best it sounds like they're the other side of the room but usually it sounds like they're at the otherside of the room whilst a bunch of other noise is going on lol
If you want a cheap mic I would go for the cheap Speedlink clipon mic on OCUK over a desktop one but that's just my opinion. Doesn't really matter how good a mic is, if it has to pick up voice from a distance then it has to be more sensitive so it likely to pick up more background noise. This is why presenters/commentators have headsets or mics clipped to collars and lapels.
