So, In your opinion, what diesel CAR would you buy for under £2000.

Requirements:

Manual
Medium hatchback sized or bigger (eg No 106's etc)
Under 80,000

A reason why you would choose the car if it was your money.

Thought this might be a better way of gathering suggestions and ideas on the market of cars im looking for.

Tom

Any reason why you chose that over all the others availible.

My high mileage fear :p stems from the fact Ive always had petrol cars, and just presumed they explode after reaching 100,000 miles :p

Whats the max mileage you would buy a 406 HDi with... If you were doing 20,000 per year?

Yehm should have been a bit clearer, saloon or estate is fine, just meant anythin bigger then medium hatch :)

Cheers for the suggestions so far guys :) Just looking up on them now.

If I was to say a decent 1.6 petrol engine was allowed what other cars could be thrown into the mixer?

(Just thinkin that mpg wouldn't be too bad on a newer 1.6 petrol engine, and should give average performance)

Fox might come along and tell you there's no benefits over a petrol when doing that sort of mileage. He's mentioned it before but I can't remember what the exact figures were.

Skoda Octavia TDi if you can find one at the price. Strong, reliable, economical and good to drive. My friends dad bought his new in 2003 and it now has 340,000 miles on it. Original engine, gearbox, one new clutch at 290k.
