Best driving game ..

Depends what your looking for - free roam, track, racing modes, realistic or hybrid realistic handling, etc.

I've been tanning the racing games a lot lately. I use G27 wheel and cockpit/bonnet view. I am playing ETS 2 and Prostreet (NFS) at the moment. Prostreet people don't like but it's amazing IMO with the wheel.

Got Shift 2, TDU 20, City Car driving, NFS The Run, NFS MW and C too. TD racing legends

I wont play without H shifter/clutch at all - I've got Dirt 3 (to try) and Hot Persuit

American Truck SIM and Project CARS

Oh I've watched pretty much all the ice road truckers stuff, its just i know people that spend 10s of hours a week on it and I just don't get it.

TDU I used to play a lot until I'd explored the island then theres really not much more gameplay in it. Do things in different types of cars i suppose.

I think the Test Drive Unlimited servers were shut down towards the end of 2012 which means you'll only ever meet AI players in the game these days. Shame really as it was my second most played game, I had done all of the races (some quite a few times) and explored every road and bought every car and could still just cruise around with music going for hours. As soon as I read the servers would be getting turned off and I'd no longer come across other people other than AI in the game I lost interest in it. I bought Test Drive Unlimited 2 and have done all the races in that too, but the driving characteristics in TDU2 are rubbish in comparison in my opinion.

The Crew looks like it could be a new alternative to TDU1 when it comes out, as long as they get the physics right, although I think the number of cars is quite lacking in that game at the moment. You can drive across all of the US in The Crew and there's quite a bit of car customisation as well so here's hoping it's actually decent.

Euro truck simulator 2 is a good one. Asetta corsa and project cars when it comes out.

Gotta agree with this.... Euro Truck Sim 2 is great and made much better with the huge maps and HD textures......

I still find Dirt 3 to be pretty decent to kill a few hours....

I bought TDU2 aswell, it lasted about 10 hours before i was fed up with it, not fun to drive at all everything felt the same no matter what car you were driving.

I think the only car I can remember in the game that had its own unique driving characteristics was the MK6 Golf GTI and that was only entertaining for a while because they screwed that up by making the back end of the car let go at random times when going around corners, somehow I don't think the MK6 Golf GTI has that much lift-off oversteer :p

A mate of mine emailed me a link to a Stuff.tv preview of The Crew. Apparently some of the TDU developers are working on The Crew so it could be quite a nice alternative when it comes out.

There's a live stream of the game going on at the moment if you're at all interested in it. Quite a lot of talking in between footage though.
