So later this week I'll be installing Vista 64 Premium on a harddrive. I want to partition the drive in to 2-4 partitions.

1) What's the easiest way of partitioning/resizing a drive?
2) If I try and put just the OC on C:, how big should I make C (40 gig enough)?

Just make sure you only have the 1 disk plugged in when you install and create the partition during the install process. I've created a 50gb partition for the OS and I've no idea what or how Vista is using the space but there's not that much space left, might have to get Partition Magic and resize unless I can find out where all the space has gone.

There will only be one disc in there...

Looks like you can create/resize and delete partitions in Vista itself!! - http://lifehacker.com/software/vist...n-your-hard-drive-in-windows-vista-231613.php

the easiest way is just to have a disk-sized C for vista, surely?

I have my Vista installed on a 500GB Partition.

it has 117GB free :)

Huh? So you install a new system and have C:, and then there is no way of splitting that partition in C & D?

I think he means you can't make the C partition bigger after it's been made. You can defintiely split the partition into C and D after installing Vista though because I did it this week. :)

The Partitioning in Vista is pants. It actually broke one of my partition setups and I had to reformat.

I have always ysed 40GB for XP or Vista. The way I do it is to install Vista on the whole HDD, and then use Partition Magic to shrink the C drive to 40 GB and rearange the rest.

I dont need it any more however, I have an 80GB drive split in half fox XP and Vista, and then everything else is on other drives

40GB is enough for Vista? Do you then install all apps/programs on another partition (eg: D)?

I move my documents and Steam to another drive/partition. Come reinstall time all you need to do is wipe C: then after reinstall point my documents to your existing folders :) EDIT: If you've got the space i'd go for more than 40gig

I'v moved all the user data, user profile and public shared over to another drive and Vista still seems to octal-ley rape the 50gb partition it's installed on.

I'll give it 100gb then... :)

Might not need it as large as that but it does depend on what other apps you plan to install.

Me, I'm going to install another 500gb drive in my rig, I've got a few drives lying around gathering dust so might as well make them lie around in the machine :)
