Best emergency tool set?

Hi all, after having a recent breakdown I figured it's not a great idea to not have any tools in my car... can anyone recommend a complete tool set to get that I can store in my car and use for emergencies (as well as normal maintenance)?

I've just got a cheap multi tool and whatever came with the car plus a few cable ties and some electrical tape, it's always fixed whatever it was enough to get me to somewhere proper to fix it. Best thing to carry is a set of gloves as nothing worse than changing a tyre or fixing something and then having to drive back with oily and generally dirty hands!

Yeah the gloves are a good call. I've got a small tool bag with a few things in like a small hammer, cable ties, tape, pliers and some other bits along with a small socket set and I also have a few pairs of disposable rubber gloves in there too. They have come in handy a few times and a box of 100 is only about £3... or just poach some from petrol stations.

Best thing to keep in your car is your breakdown service card.

Otherwise I just keep things like a socket set, screwdrivers, tapes, ropes and multitool.

Only thing I have is a super lightweight rain coat and some paper towels. Changing a tyre on the side of the road in the rain isn't fun!

Preventative maintenance is your best tool. Check the following on a monthly basis..

Tyre pressures (check your manual for the correct figures, don't use what it says on the side of the tyre!)
Tyre tread, and check for punctures
Oil level
Coolant level, don't use water.
Brake fluid level
Washer fluid

Braker bar and 17/19 or 21mm socket depending on car. Much better to use then the crappy wheel brace that comes with the car
