best female artist...

I've been a Pat Benatar fan for over 20 years, it's just a pity that she deviated from her early rock music.

Who is yours?

I can happily say that mine is Joni Mitchell. Absolute genius. Brilliant. Listening to "Help me" right now...

Gotta love Big Yellow Taxi and California truly excellent. I like Corine Bailey Rae, Imogen heap and Nelly Furtado at the moment.

Jane Siberry, little known Canadian singer song writer who has made some simply spell binding music.

I've always been a fan of PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, and Bjork.

But in terms of who I think are the best female vocalists, that would have to be Tina Arena and Lucie Silvas.

hmmm choices, choices... until I can decide on one:

Tracy Chapman
Toni Childs
Bjork
Tori Amos
Pasty Cline
Billie Holiday

Bjork - incredible artist and great singer.

Anyone heard of Amalia Rodrigues? Shes portugese, has a fantastic fantasic voice.

Tough choice. Would probably say Jenny Lewis (Rilo Kiley), though Cat Power, Isobel Campbell (Belle and Seb), Regina Spektor and Emily Haines (Metric/BSS) all have amazing voices

Whitney Houston
Which makes me a big gayer :p but i love her. I want her to do that snow sitting down on chair bit to me NOW.
Stevie Nicks (sp?) top bird.
Barbara Streisand :D I know i know but what can i say i am old and me mum used to play it/her whatever.

Feel free to rip the **** out of me on this one. ;)

Jewel's first album, Pieces Of You, is stunning. She's a bit too country / commercial these days for me though..

I also like PJ Harvey and Bjork. I especially loved the early Sugarcubes stuff.

Well you gave me something too think about there and in all honesty I can't think of any songs that I like from any female artists. :(
