Ive recently started playing Fifa: Road To World Cup 98 again.

This has to be the most playable FIFA game released.

Anyone have another preference?

Fifa '98 World Cup (not RttWC) on the N64

So many options to tweak; referee strictness, so you could have referees actually calling a well-timed dive.
Plenty of ball-trickery on hand too.

They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

All downhill from Fifa '95 for me.

Sure you could easily score doing the same thing every time, but that was back when the game was fresh and hadn't been tainted by years of rubbish updates.

Or maybe i just have fond memories.

They all suck.

Play Pro Evolution instead.

once you have the hang of fifa 06 it's a better game than pro evo tbh, Just that most don't bother because they're happy to swallow the recieved knowledge that pro evo is better.

Any FIFA game is too tacky and focused more on how David Beckham's hair swings when he's taking a free kick - as opposed to having a decent engine to run a decent football game.

Pro Evo on the other hand - allows for a lot more flex in the game play - things happen in Pro Evo which you can't predict - in a good way. As opposed to the classic FIFA games of old - where you sprint down the wing, cross the ball in and score with an overhead kick, 9 times out of 10 - Ah, Fifa 2001. Good times.

FIFA, in my opinion, went down hill when they took out the indoor football pitch.

i thought fifa2005 was probably the best one out of ~2005, i did play 2006 very briefly but i couldnt give a great summary for it due to the time i played it unfortunately
