yo,
was wondering if anyone can tell me which is better quality between 3G and MP4 ?

looking to convert some movies to go on my phone. Also, which software is best to use for this?

3GP and MP4 are both container formats. That is, they're both capable of storing different types of audio and video so your overall quality is based more on which codecs are used.

3GP can do MPEG4 video with AAC audio and will give decent quality on "most" mobiles. Which phone are you encoding for?

Did some googling and came up with this: "Motorola V3x ... equipped with 3GP support and a resolution of 176 x 144 pixels." That's pretty much industry standard so you might have some luck with this (blatant pimpage). I know the page says for sonyericsson but it should be compatible

ok cheers, ill give it a try (is also stated that it supports wmv's at that resolution)
