Even though this is to do with a car part, I think its place should be in here as its to ask for peoples opinions on what is best to use:

Basically in my car I have moulded in a touch screen monitor, however when I pushed it in something caught and made a few cracks appear.

I plan on sanding down and re-filling this gaps, last time I used car body filler as there was some big gaps to fill, however as they are only small cracks, would ordinary house hold filler work?

I plan on priming and spray painting it.

Thanks

Use car filler, house filler isn't designed to be painted with car paint and I expect might soak it up leaving a strange finish, plus would be much more likely to crack if you flex the part. If you can't be bothered buying a big tub and mixing it up get some knifing putty from Halfords instead, comes in like a toothpaste tube and doesn't need a hardener.

Brill, thanks for that. The issue was with the fact it was a big tub + hardener which was fine to use when there were large gaps, but now its just cracks didnt fancy wasting a load.

Cheers

Normal 2-part car body filler comes in small tubes as well, if you like the fast curing time. You can get finishing filler which is a lot finer, sometimes called stopper or cellulose putty if you go for the old style stuff. Just remember that single part fillers shrink more than 2-part because they are solvent based rather than epoxy.
