Hi all.

I am getting my keys for new house next week so will begin decorating before we move in most likely early March as not in a rush.

Need to do some painting and wall papering but most importantly some contractors will be pulling some plaster off and puting a new damp course in.

I am worried about our nice hard wood flooring during this time as my previous experiences are that plasters make a right old mess.

Do you recommend cloth/paper/plastic sheet or the sticky cellophane type floor protection.

Am worried abour any sticky one taking the finish off the wood.

Thanks

A lot of contractors I know use thin plywood sheets to cover floors. Tape up the gap where each board meets. For when it comes to painting, you can get dust sheets with a plastic backing. Theese are great as they stop any paint from seeping through.

i used a plastic sheet first. screwfix do 2 for 99p 4mx5m if i remember rightly. and then i used cotton dust sheets over top also from screwfix.

Hardboard and duct tape.

Correx is good but it doesn't last long if you use the standard stuff. It is more impact resistant than hardboard though so it depends on what you're doing on it.

We use hardboard then correx over the top on new apartments over timber flooring.

Make sure you hoover well first as any movement with dust will act like a cutting compound and scratch the floor.

Were decorating a five storie office building this week, (stair wells). Spent ages meticulously covering the carpeted stairs. Only to find out last night that the carpets are all being replaced and the current stuff being dumped. Typical.:(

I used the screwfix sticky floor stuff and it did a good job. Was about £10 for a roll mind. but it covered a room of about 4x4m
