I don't want anything "my god" fancy, just a basic thing where you have to enter a password to enter the folder or drive.

Since just about everyone uses my pc from anything from MSN to Gamefaqs, and I have a ton of work documents I do for clients (I do web/graphic design) I would rather people didn't mess around in those directories.

I am using Windows XP and VIsta (a dual boot) so I need something that will work in both, I dont really care about encryption, these people dont have PC skills they will just see the folder is locked and think to themselves "oh ok then, its fine" and move on... I just want something to protect my work folder because it has fiancial info on clients and stuff to.

As said, I dont need anything fancy, just something light weight, where I can right click on the folder, chose lock type in a password, and thats that :)

(and also, what happens when I format windows, will the lock still be there, or will it die?)

I also want write protection, I have Music folder, and want to protect incase I accidentally delete it (user is admin)

I guess simplest would be to create a user with fewer rights and use that instead, and create read only privalage?

Truecrypt as mentioned above will allow write protection.

I use Folder Guard XP, it's very basic (going into safe mode will defeat it for example, and formatting definitely will) but it does the job I need. Has a number of different options for folders - hiding them, locking them, write-protecting them etc.
