Hello
I would like to know what is the best free fire-wall out there out of the so many ones that are being offered for free of charge.
And if you could point me to some up-to-date tests and/or reviews, that would be the best.

Thanks in advance

Do I need a fire wall considering i am using vista SP1 and FW is turned on, or is it not safe enough?

Can say that I have some very important information on my PC that I will never want anyone to have access to. :)

If you don't have a hardware firewall on a router then use something like Comodo but without Defence+ turned on. It is awful.

If you do have a router with a hardware firewall then that would be enough although you could still use Comodo to control programs a little more than you can with a hardware router. :)

I was REALLY glad that I had Comodo FW as my AV that I was using (Antivir Premium) did not detect a Trojan and it was only Comodo that prevented the Trojan from connecting to the Internet. The Trojan had created a folder on my C drive and used a program to crack the master password in FF and capture all of my user names and passwords. It even managed to capture my Paypal details, and they were from a HTTPS site and so not stored..! The user names and passwords were stored in a txt file totalling 18 pages in length..!

Oops..!

What is up with the built in firewall for a software firewall or hardware firewall that are built into routers?

If you have a hardware firewall why don't you disable the software one and use the hardware one?

The hardware will block incoming connections, but if you have upnp enabled on router it wont stop applications/trojans making outgoing connections.
The software firewall can be used to set which applications are allowed to make outgoing connections.

You can disable upnp on the router but for some people this feature is required or they maybe they are too lazy to setup port forwarding rules on the router.

I know this, but the op never mentioned anything about what they wanted the firewall for. As you know theres different types like the scenario I was talking about.

Use Comodo here too - works well and doesn't get on your nerves. SonicWall protecting the server tho, just for that little extra.

BTW, is it just me, or is XP-64 not covered by ZoneAlarm?
