Hi there,

I have a few servers scattered about the county and would like to have my server here (linux or sbs) to monitor the remote sites servers as well as computers & printers on those sites (if possible)

Is there any free software avaliable that will do this?

Many thanks

I've just deployed OpenNMS in house, i quite like it, it required very minimal configuration and basically keeps an eye on key services and hosts.

There are plenty of others though, a friend of mine is raving about PandoraFMS at the moment.

excellent, do either of them let you monitor several remote sites from the one main "server"? as in umm

hosts---site 1 ----------main server---------site 2 ------- hosts
hosts---site 3 ---------/

etc so i can look at 1 webpage and from it see which servers are on and on further inspection find out what hosts are working on those sites :P

(i think that all made sense :S)

Well yes, of course they do, you'll need VPNs and so on enabled.

OpenNMS allows you to set up Outage Paths where if it detects your VPN link down to a remote site it won't then notify you of all hosts on that site being down (as obviously it doesn't really know, it just lost link)

PandoraFMS has an agent type system which will report back to your server via the internet, but i'm less familier with that.

We've just started using eventsentry, unfortunately I haven't had time to look at it at all really so I cant give my verdict but they seem to think its very good.
