Hi all
I need some free video editing software. I only need basic software to adjust brightness and do some clipping and that kind of thing. I also need it to save my videos in the format they are already in. I tried movie maker but that wouldn't recognise my mp4 videos and didn't seem to work correctly under windows 10

Can anyone suggest a free simple to use editor?
Thanks in advance

Thank you for the suggestions but none of these seem to do what I need them to do :(

Avidemux will do what you have mentioned.

To alter the brightness;
  1. Open a video
  2. Under video output select your codec, e.g. mp4 AVC
  3. click on Filters
  4. Select Colors in the left column
  5. Double-click on Contrast in the middle column
  6. Move the brightness and contrast sliders
  7. Go back to main screen, select output format and save

Plenty of help online for how to splice and do other things too.

I did think you were wrong, but as I've barely used / looked at the ones I suggested, I couldn't be absolutely certain. :)

Don't worry about the complexity of the software; there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube and once you get the hang of the basics, constructing a video becomes much, much easier.
