best free video editing software?

As a teacher in a skint school, i'm on the hunt for some decent free video editing software.

Sadly can't stretch to adobe premiere (licenses are way too much) so after a freebie alternative.

Anything out there with similar functionality without the price tag?

That's also the top recommendation of the review site I linked to above! Seems like a good bet!

Davinci resolve free is excellent, very easy to use and great results.

+1 with the above. I've used sony vegas, avid media composer and premiere pro and only just tried davinci resolve this month and found it to be on par with the other software even though it is available free.
