Best free website stats?

I'd like to monitor what's going on with my blog - rough hit numbers, where they came from, etc - but don't really want to display a hit counter on the page itself (that's sooo 1999).

I think my hosting does it somewhere deep in the stats but I'd like something nice and user-friendly.

Any suggestions?

http://www.statcounter.com/ is free and although I've not used it for a few years now, from what I remember was pretty good and a piece of cake to set up.

Failing that, Google Analytics.

I'd skip statcounter and go straight to Google Analytics. It's regarded as the best free solution.

I found I had an old statcounter account so threw that on anyway, but Analytics sounds good!

What blogging software are you using?

For wordpress I use statpress and wp-shortstat

Just blogger. Statcounter and Analytics both work well - analytics is very interesting
