I have decided to upgrade my monitor and after extensive research Ive decided what I want. The ideal is a 24/25" 1440p 144hz freesync IPS monitor, ofcourse this would be extremely expensive so I am willing to downgrade from that.

Are there any brilliant monitors that are 24-25" (I feel 27" is slightly big but maybe i could get it) 1440p IPS freesync in the £300 price range?

ViewSonic XG2401 is by far the best. Also best 144hz 1080p monitor overall too.

It goes without saying 1440p 144 hz AND IPS for £300 isn't possible & there aren't any 24-25'' like that anyway.

Appreciate the comment. This looks like an excellent monitor. I am now trying to decide between the viewsonic one, and an Acer XF270HU for 379,99 which for an extra 110 has 1440p 144hz IPS and freesync. I know ultimately it is my decision and I have to weight up the benefits of spending more but, what would you pick in this situation?

It honestly depends on the games you play, your expectations and other usage. The thing about 1440p in my experience was that it was overrated, I didn't think the visual difference was worth the extra burden on the system and the increased cost required to get good performance. I've also come to accept that since I spend most time playing games like CSGO, DotA 2 or Path of Exile, 1440p made even less sense as those games don't scale very well. So, for me, I'm getting a Viewsonic next week and it's replacing a BenQ BL3200PT. I would also say that in some cases downscaling from 4K on a 1080p monitor gave some gorgeous results (e.g. Deus Ex Human Revolutions) but native 1440p compared to 1080p wasn't as big of a difference.

Ultimately, the extra £100 can take you from a 480 to a fury or fury x even, and that's going to do more than just going up to 1440p. On the other hand, if you don't mind keeping closer to 60 fps rather than higher, 1440p isn't too bad.

I do have to say though, I plan on getting a 4K TV for more action-adventure type games and such, so I also take that into account for my choice, but that may not be the case for you. Plus, I'm a bit value obsessed, so knowing I get much more value from a purchase nets me more satisfaction than just getting a better product, i.e. XG2401 for £250 is tremendous, the jump to XF270HU for £110 more is not so big spec-wise and because it taxes the hardware more that means I have even less tweaking room, so that is even less value.

I have gone ahead and ordered the viewsonic monitor, I am pleased with this decision after reading your post. I did really want a 1440p monitor but I think with my current graphics card I dont want to be limited with being bottlenecked in the next year, this way I can make use of my gpu for longer. I also think its not worth the hassle of IPS monitors yet until quality control is to a higher standard, its too much for a hassle dealing with the backlight lottery.

Thanks again for your help!

Awesome to hear mate, let us know how it goes! Imo start off with CS:GO that's the de-facto benchmark for 144hz though with the recent Vulkan update Doom looks particularly tastey as well. :D
