Hi all!

Ive got a week off and a few friends and i fancy trying a new MMO!

Ive recently played guildwars 2 but i couldnt stick with it for some reason, decent game by all accounts but it didnt quite hold my interest (got to level 30ish)

in the past ive also played a bit of WoW (1 char to cap and a mixture of other attempts) and SWTOR for that first month when it came out and i wasnt impressed

my mate mentioned Tera is now free, any good?

open to suggestions also :) thanks

*also to add, i know they are free so i could download them all for a test out but i havent got the best net speed here so wouldnt want to waste my time if its no good :) ta

I'm no MMO expert but had a decent amount of fun on Age of Conan a few years back, now it's free might be worth another bash.

GW2 is probably the only half way decent one about at the moment.

Most of the others are only "free to play" in the sense that you can play them for free if you don't mind being gimped to hell compared to paying customers.

Tera is pretty pap, the combat system is a waste when most of the classes are melee based anyway.

And its not exactly innovative, youre still pressing number keys to activate skills :/

Give Lord of the Rings Online a go, I found it absorbing and it had me hooked for a good while until I started hitting the play for free barriers.

If you're happy to pay for some stuff, lotro would be a good choice but you can play for free reasonably well.

hmmm tera sounds pretty pants then!

i may try again on gw2 i just didnt like the style of heres the area, go and 100% this map and move on, got a bit repetative (but all mmos are really)

Lotr may be worth a look then! ive only just finally seen the films.. i know!

I'll get shot down but I have had more then my monies worth (I am a sub) from SWTOR - there are some stupid FTP restrictions (like helmet toggle) which should be standard; but honestly for the story alone its worth a shot.

I know you said you played it for a month during launch but it has come on a fair way since then :)

lotro for me has always been the best mmo around, had a lifetime sub for 5 years now! though i dont play anymore as many of my friends who did play stopped. Still though i didnt come across many FTP players complaining while playing.

I have played a few good MMO! Have you looked Path of Exile or Forsaken world or Raiderz

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

path of exile looks pretty interesting? similar to diablo?

ive never really played them so that wouldnt matter either way! is it an MMO or more of a solo/co-op thing? thanks :)

it was decent ill admit, but i didnt like all the bioware story stuff in an mmo, it just felt a bit forced to me and eventually my guy would repeat dialog etc

still, a great idea, but not what i was after when i brought it! thanks for ur suggestion though!

I'd have to say out of all FTP MMo's the following are the best ;-

Aion - Totally free to play with no level or map restrictions, plenty of busy servers however it's not the best community. Levelling is extremely fun and fast with tons and tons of content at all levels. 8.1/10

Lotro - There are quite a few restrictions but having played since beta/lifetime sub and being a fan of Tolkien it's a fantastic MMO. It's slowly dying a death if I'm honest but has a decent community. 7.6/10

Tera has great graphics but gets tedious with nothing much to do at cap. SWToR is basically a letdown, it's a single player game with terrible FTP restrictions.

I couldn't stick with GW2 either. All my guild still play it, but I can't even force myself to play. Pretty weird tbh.

Rift is worth a go, although numbers are dwindling it seems with few High pop EU servers left. It's still a great game. It's currently FTP until level 20.

I've actually taken to playing TF2 again - it gives me my PvP fix and is a fantastic amount of fun.

I would recommend either LOTRO or GW2. I wouldn't currently recommend Eve, Warcraft, DAOC or Rift. I haven't tried Tera, although heard it's a grindfest, but then again so are other supposedly non-grindy MMOs like GW2.

Tried all of them in the past 8 months, most after a few years way from them and LOTRO/GW2 are the only two that remain installed and played.

the secret world doesn't get enough recognition, very enjoyable game as an mmo and a single player experience, the quests are complex and unique and do not feel grindy
