Hey guys,

Recently got hold of a cheapish laptop and want to play games on it. Now before you instantly think "oh dear, it will have a pants onboard chipset" rest assured it is an Optimus graphics set up, Intel HD 3000 twinned with an NVIDIA GT540M 1GB. I know it still wont set the world on fire but should be able to play most older games quite well.

Just want to know what you guys recommend playing on it? I don't mind if the games dont run on highest settings. As long as they run on medium+ settings at over around 25 fps.

I'd also prefer to not need a controller plugged in to play said games.

So far i've tried Dear Esther which runs quite well but really needs a mouse
I've tried Limbo but cannot get the game to load past the main menu
I've tried Poker Night at the Inventory and that refuses to even load
TS2013 runs but runs quite bad

I am surprised that TS2013 runs bad for you, I have the GT540M (albeit the 2GB version but I doubt that will make much difference here) and it runs fine.

Here is a list of games I have played and they run well

King's bounty series
Heroes of might and magic series
Europa Universalis 3, Victoria 2 and Hearts of Iron 3
Company of Heroes
Legends of Grimrock
Football Manager
Rome total war
Medieval 2 Total war
Tropico 4
Defense grid
TS2012/13

All these on max settings

Have you set the hybrid graphics to performance mode for each game? Potentially the intel integrated crap might be trying to run them hence the poor to non performance.

Most indie games. There's a sticky with a list of them at the top of the forum. Also I play stronghold kingdoms on my laptop.

Yeah not sure why it struggles. Maybe its a driver issue under Windows 8 Release Preview? But thanks for the list i'll give them a go :)

Thats a good point, i have it set to integrated by default and not sure if TS2013 is set to use the NVIDIA card, may check that out.

Yea may look into some good indie games :D

Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have a M11x which I got a while back which is getting out of date due to the face I built it wrong :( anyways We have allot of LAN parties with mates and my friends take their computers which I don’t really want to do.

I don’t want to go back to alienware but I want a new laptop which plays games pretty well. The games we play are the following (but would like it to play decent games as well)

LoL
Dota 2
WoW
Might and Magic

What else can we play?

I would like it to play newer games for times when I won’t be at my Main Computer so any help or suggestions would be great.

I also don’t want to pay £££'s for it Finance options I can consider.

I'm also eyeing up an upgrade from my Tosh (i3-380 & 5650).

Shorlisted:

Lenovo Z570 - i5-2450M + 540M
Toshiba L850-1EF - i5-3210M + 7670M
Samsung 355V5C - AMD A10-4600M + 7670M

All around £500ish though, seems to be the minimum spend for a decent graphics card (Acer can do one, lol).
