Best games to get into pc gaming

when you've downloaded war thunder give us a shout in this thread if you like it or not

Like many free to play games its best with squadmates! Were active pretty much every day/night and like minded people make the game what it is, I wouldn't still be playing if it wasnt for OCUK members.

TBH I can see gaming being a little difficult to get back into after that long away and playing with other people is the best way to get back into it. It's not a huge learning curve for any game (apart from EvE). But helpful teammates make any game good and war thunder wise I think the OCUK clan does a damn fine job.

Another good f2p (genuinely f2p that is) game is Path of Exile

If youve heard of diablo2 its similiar to that, cant remember if that was around the dx2 time.

I'm using an xbox 360 controller on my pc it was literally plug & play, no drivers to install, nothing, now I just wish they would hurry & release gtav so I have something to use it on :D I went through all sorts in the past to get PS controllers working on pc, as the MS ones always felt horrible, but the 360 ones are a lot closer to PS style.

id recommend the following F2P games:

League of Legends
Dota 2
(Both are MOBA's)

Rift (if youd like to try an MMO)

Path of Exile (fantastic game!)

Planetside 2 (a bit like battlefield, only in the future, and free)

Team fortress 2 (a fun fps game)

Mate do any of your friends game online (don't mean to sound rude but I mean your friends in real life, guys you went to school/Uni/Work with etc), if so find out what they play and download those games as well, there's nothing better than gaming online with a group of friends.
If not that's no big deal, I play online most nights with a close group of friends, a lot of which I've never even met in person, hell I don't even know what a good few of them look like, but that doesn't stop me having some brilliant fun.

I recommend RPG's like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, Deus Ex(excluding II: Invisible War),

I'd second these, Mass Efect 1 & 2 can be had very cheaply, even if they aren't that cheap on Steam they can be had for a couple of quid each on Amazon.

If you're willing to splash out a bit then Diablo 3 & the expansion (Reaper of Souls) is a fantastic game, by splash out I mean spend about £30, you can get the base game from amazon, then like I did, get the expansion from a CD key site such as Kinguin.

Ok guys I have installed steam and am installing war thunder. I changed the settings to install this on my Unraid nas is that OK. Games look kinda big. Will leave it downloading and tell you how I have got on. Headphones are at the ready!

so you're installing it to an external networked drive? hummm.... not tried this personally. dunno if there would be longer waiting times with the extra hoops the data has to jump through. I'm sure someone else will be able to confirm this or not.

but if you like the gaming and intend to keep at it then I highly recommend getting yourself an SSD or two :) I opted for two. a 128GB ssd for windows and a few select programs (photoshop) and then a 256GB ssd for all my games and gaming utilities :D pretty much always one of the, if not the, first to load in a round of battlefield 4.

they are a bit expensive but they are coming down in price, slowly but surely, but completely worth it IMO. less waiting more gaming :D

That's me! I'm struggling trying to get the games to run. They are downloading more stuff and I had a bsod crash ffs....

my first port of call would be to get everything to do with steam, including the games themselves, onto your computers own hard drive, rather than NAS. It may not solve the problem, but its the only thing you are doing differently to everyone else so its worth a shot

Ok so I got into planetside 2 last night for about 20 minutes and started the training. Man is there some serious stuff and key presses to learn! Will keep you informed when I make more slow progress. As for the nas I can read from it at 112MB sec so it's about as fast as a green hard disk. But if I have more issues I will move stuff to my ssd. At the moment the 480gb ssd is half full of the same Blu-ray movie that has been transcoded in different ways and quality so I can see if I can see the difference.
Cheers des

More updates. I registered on humble and got that deal so I'm downloading all the bioshocks the bureau the darkness mafia 2 spec ops and xeon. It's going to take all night but hay. Also had another bsod. The error complains about memory manager. I'm using vulcan 16gb memory I got from overclockers in an a10 6700 htpc I got them to build. The first batch crashed all the time and eventually wouldn't boot so was replaced. But every few days the always on htpc crashed. Memory checks found nothing. So I bought another 16gb of corsair stuff and it fixed the htpc. I put the vulcan stuff in this i5 3570 thinking it just didn't get on with the amd. But I'm getting these bsod issues. Memory tests still find nothing. It's rated at 2133mhz and it's now running at 1600 mhz so I don't know what to do. Wouldn't get vulcan ram again. Anyhow I will get back to this gaming.... Rant over.

So played, or tried to play planetside 2for about an hour. It seems complicated! I have no idea who I should be shooting and I have been killed 5 times. I have killed no one. It also takes an age to get back into the game once killed. It said my connection was bad maybe due to the other games downloading at the same time. So I'm going to try war thunder now...

Yeah you definitely don't want anything downloading whilst playing online games!

Just take your time and enjoy the games :)
